BEFORE LAMINATE INSTALLATION
Since laminate can often be installed as glue-down or as a floating floor over existing flooring, your old flooring may not need to be removed completely! Start by removing all furniture and items from the room and closets, and then remove all frames and mounted items off the walls as well. If your laminate allows for floating floor installation, there's a good chance you will not need to repair any subfloor imperfections. Bring your new laminate into the room and allow at least 2 days prior to installation for the planks to acclimate to the household conditions and humidity levels.
DURING Laminate INSTALLATION
On the day of your new laminate installation, make sure to be home and available to answer questions or address issues that may arise for your installation crew. Designate a specific workspace in the home for your installers to keep potentially dangerous laminate installation tools such as jigsaws, table saws, flooring cutters, hand saws, hammers, finishing nails, caulk guns, jamb saws, mallets, and utility knives. Make sure to keep all children and pets away from the rooms receiving new floors, the installation tools, and the installer’s workspace. New laminate installation can often be as quick as half a day for one room!
AFTER Laminate INSTALLATION
Once your new laminate is installed, you should wait at least 24 hours before a glue-down floor receives foot traffic or light foot traffic without footwear immediately for a floating floor. Check to ensure that your doors have full range of motion, especially if the new laminate is a floating floor, and shave the doors down if needed. Place felt protectors under the legs and corners of heavy furniture, tables, and chairs, and after waiting 1-2 days, carefully place furniture back into the room without dragging it directly across the laminate.
