Carpet Installation
It’s time to get prepared for your new soft carpet.
BEFORE CARPET INSTALLATION
Since carpet cannot be installed over existing flooring, your old flooring will need to be removed completely. Start by removing all furniture and items from the room and closets, disconnecting all electronics and wiring, and then remove all frames and mounted items off the walls as well. Carpet requires a completely level subfloor so you will need your installers to assess subfloor conditions and repair any imperfections. Bring your carpet rolls into the room and allow at least 1-2 days prior to installation for the carpet to acclimate to the household conditions and humidity levels. We highly recommend completing all painting or staining to walls and molding at least two days prior to carpet installation as well.
DURING CARPET INSTALLATION
On the day of your new carpet installation, make sure to be home and available to answer questions or address issues that may arise for your installation crew. Carpet installation materials can often create strong odors, so make sure your air conditioning, heating and ventilation systems are working properly. Designate a specific workspace in the home for your installers to keep potentially dangerous carpet installation tools such as tack strips, staple guns, and utility knives. Make sure to keep all children and pets away from the rooms receiving new carpet and the installer’s workspace. Your team will vacuum, clean, and remove all debris, plus provide an inspection of the rooms. New carpet installation will generally take at least one full day but can also be quicker in many cases!
AFTER CARPET INSTALLATION
Once your new carpet is installed, you won’t immediately be able to use the room. When your installers say your carpet can be walked on, start with light foot traffic without footwear to help the carpet adhere. Change your air filters to help mitigate any new carpet odor and ensure proper ventilation. Check to ensure that your doors have full range of motion, especially if the new carpet has a higher pile height and shave the doors down if needed. Place felt protectors under the legs and corners of heavy furniture, tables, and chairs, and after waiting 1-2 days, carefully place furniture back into the room without dragging it directly across the carpet. Begin vacuuming your new carpet after installation and do not be alarmed by shedding for the first month.
